As I driving to work this morning taking my usual route, I drove by a billboard that I must have passed a thousand times. Its message stuck with me.
The billboard was not updated for months and had a happy birthday message from October. A few weeks ago, I noticed it changed but continued on my way. For some reason today, when I read the billboard something clicked.
The words, “Hope must be loud” echoed in my head for a few minutes after driving past.
The advertisement is part of an initiative by the Ad Council to raise awareness about substance abuse recovery .
It was a reminder that no matter what is going on in your life that hope exists all around you. In the case of the ad, a whole community awaits when you are ready to take a step into recovery.
Zooming out there is a whole community awaiting us if we just look for it. It ties into what Mr. Roger’s used to say on his show, “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.”
With so much negativity and toxicity in the world right now, it is easy to get discouraged and upset. Look for the helpers around you.
Regardless of where you stand politically, ideologically, or religiously the world is changing quickly. With so much uncertainty, I want to be a beacon of hope for those who are struggling right now. I want that hope to be loud and unrelenting.
I wrote a few weeks ago about the path forward and finding community. It starts with you. Remember there are people who look up to you and are inspired by you. Some you will know and many others you will not. Keep going, there is hope all around you. You just have to keep going.
