Using RSS readers to follow blogs and mimic social networks

Replied to RSS readers are a productivity hack by Dave Smyth:

I love this idea. I am currently updating the category and organization of the content on my website to make it easier to follow.

As I continue to move away from social media, I recognize that what makes social media so hard to get rid of is how easy it is to connect with multiple viewpoints at once. Unless you have a feed reader with multiple websites, you will not be able to accomplish the same thing and will have to visit each website to get the latest updates. This is time consuming and takes more effort than simply scrolling on a social media site.

Where did all the websites go?

Replied to Where have all the websites gone? by Jason Velazquez:

This post hit the nail on the head. The internet used to be filled with blogs, websites, and fun sites that were not tied to an algorithm. I’d argue collectively, we are all yearning to have that online experience but the scrolling apps have us hooked.

I feel like things will head back to something similar to the past, not the same, but similar. People are sick of being treated as as an advertisement and the rise of AI content will push people to find something “authentic” and “genuine.”

April 8 – April 14 Highlights

Weeknote April 8 – April 14:

  • Watched the solar eclipse from my house. I want to travel to see the next total eclipse after hearing and watching the pure excitement and awe of those who attended in person.
  • Added comments and permalinks to the timeline posts. This will allow easier sharing and feedback functionality. I had to rework the individual blog post pages to accommodate this change.
  • Alexandra and I are in the home stretch in trip preparation and packing! Got some last-minute clothes, snacks and toiletries.
  • Continued to organize and do spring cleaning. Making much progress!

April 1 – April 7 Highlights

 Weeknote April 1 – April 7:

  • Trying to figure out how to get the fallen tree removed from the backyard.
  • Continued to organize and do spring cleaning
  • Started planning and getting things together for Spain
  • Alexandra and I finally tried Shaker & Vine in Schenectady
