Automated Testing

Tools like axe, WAVE, Lighthouse catch ~30-40% of WCAG issues automatically. Good for contrast, alt text, labels, ARIA attributes. Can't catch focus order, reading comprehension, or keyboard traps.

In plain terms

Software scanners that catch some accessibility problems automatically — useful, but they find only about a third of the issues.

Why this matters

Scanners are fast and cheap, but catching only ~30–40% of issues means relying on them alone leaves most barriers in place — and breeds false confidence that a page is 'accessible' when it isn't.
