Operable WCAG 2.2.1

Timing Adjustable

If content has a time limit, users must be able to turn off, adjust, or extend it (at least 10× the default). Session timeouts must warn before expiry. Auto-rotating carousels need pause controls.

In plain terms

If there's a time limit, people must be able to turn it off or extend it — not everyone reads or types at the same speed.

Why this matters

Time limits punish anyone who reads, types, or moves slowly — people with cognitive, motor, or vision disabilities. A session that silently expires can wipe out all their work.

How to detect

Quick check

Find any countdown, auto-logout, or auto-advancing content. Can the user turn it off, adjust it, or extend it to at least ten times the default? Are they warned before a timeout?
