First solo Getaway trip

Outside look at a Getaway cabin, picnic area and fire pit.

I promised myself at the beginning of the year to try new things and go on more adventures. This week I went on my first solo overnight trip just outside the Catskills at a tiny house outpost called Getaway.

The mission of Getaway is to escape daily life, and technology and reconnect with nature! They even provide a lockbox to put your phone in so you can disconnect while you are there. I highly recommend checking them out and I will be returning soon!

The experience

The morning of your trip you will receive a text message from Getaway letting you know when you can check in and a map of the outpost so you can download it onto your phone. Some locations have spotty cell and data service so this is recommended. Personally, I did not have any issues getting cell and data service at the location I was at.

An hour before you are due to check in, you will receive your cabin name, the code to unlock the cabin and other instructions. I initially had some issues gaining access with the code and customer service was quick to help. All you have to do is text (or call) the number they were sending you updates and information regarding the trip if you run into any issues.

Inside the cabins, you have a queen-sized bed with pillows, a small kitchen with a stovetop and pots and pans, some provisions like coffee and tea, a refrigerator, dishes, and cooking essentials. The cabins are also equipped with a shower, toilet, AC, and heat. There is also a picnic table and fire pit outside for your enjoyment. Getaway provides wood and a fire starter for purchase.

Each cabin also has a landline phone (the red phone) in the picture should you need to reach someone in an emergency. This is helpful and reassuring in areas that do not have cell service.

The outposts are very quiet, which makes it a great environment for you to recharge. Most people keep to themselves with a few walking around the grounds.

Even though I only spent a night at the outpost and cabin, it was quite refreshing to be out in nature and have few distractions. I am eager to go for a longer trip and disconnect.
