Working Memory
The cognitive system that temporarily holds information needed to complete tasks. Limited to ~4 chunks. Reduce reliance on memory: show don't recall, persist state, and keep related info visible together.
In plain terms
Short-term memory is tiny — don't make people remember things from a previous screen; show the information again instead.
Why this matters
Forcing people to remember details from a previous step overloads a very limited system and causes errors — a genuine barrier for users with cognitive or memory disabilities. Show information; don't make them recall it.
