The Internet is more than social media, but why is it so popular?
It’s human nature to want to share our experiences with one another. Social media has, in a sense, become the new coffee shop. It’s a place where each one of us, if we want, can go and express our thoughts, ideas, and expertise.
Social media has also become a gateway to information. Many of us using it to stay informed about events going on with our family, friends, and communities.
As a digital strategist and content marketer, it’s important for me to remember why people are using social media in the first place.
It all comes down to this: camaraderie.
It’s not advertising, being marketed to, or having their clicks analyzed and then resold to advertisers. While some of us utilize social media to find products and services, it’s usually on our own terms.
The popularity of social media will depend on whether or not we give people the freedom to freely and openly express themselves.
