Reminders for growth

Stacked rocks set against a pink sky.

I like to collect things that resonate with me as I am browsing the internet, creating a digital scrapbook of sorts.

Over the years, I have collected hundreds of posts, images, memes, and ideas from others. On occasion, I do look back and wonder what made me save a particular post. Other times I laugh just as hard as when I first saved the image onto my phone.

This digital scrapbook has multiple purposes for me – sometimes it’s inspiration, sometimes for a good laugh, and others for growth.

I am always trying to grow and learn more about myself. That is why during the pandemic I wanted to take the time to get to know myself better. One way I did that was by working on a self-discovery book called Who am I? It is filled with deep questions going all the way back to your childhood so you can better understand who you are. I highly recommend this workbook if you are looking to learn more about yourself.

I was going through this book a few days ago and one of the questions stood out to me. It reminded me of that ever-growing scrapbook and those little tokens of inspiration, motivation, and laughter. The question is What ideas should we in particular keep reminding ourselves of in order to improve our lives and grow into our better selves?

This question is deeply personal because it requires you to look back at all your experiences, lessons, successes, and failures so far in your life and sum it up into a life guide. This is not easy to do but can be a driving force in our lives if we let it.

I wanted to highlight this list and have it serve as a daily reminder for inspiration and growth. Being that I wrote this list near the end of 2020, I did not want it to get lost again in the pages of this awesome book.

Here is my list:

  • It’s okay not to be okay
  • Growth takes time
  • Forgive yourself for past “mistakes”
  • You don’t have to be perfect
  • Don’t sweat the small stuff
  • Slow down and enjoy the little things in life
  • Connect with nature on a regular basis
  • You are not your feelings
  • You are stronger than you know
  • Change does not mean you failed
  • You create your own reality
  • Be patient
  • Everything and everyone meant for you will come

I also do not believe this list is set in stone and should be changed or added to as we learn more about ourselves and our experiences. Life will always challenge us and we all have the ability to learn and grow along our journey.

Self-reflection and personal growth is important to me. I write about it a lot in this online journal as a way to share my experiences and inspire others to do the same.

Have any of the ideas on my list resonated with you? What are some of your ideas?
