The power of doing internal work

I often write about my spiritual path and how it has changed the trajectory of my life.

It has given me indescribable freedom that I hope all those that I am fortunate to have in my life can experience. The best part is I have so much more to grow, learn and experience.

I believe that nothing in life is permanent and the only constant is change. In my past, change made me uncomfortable since I never knew what was coming next even though it was holding me back. It was all an illusion of comfort.

When nothing changes you are being held back. The stagnation of energy has nowhere to go but to sit inside. Think of a pool of water that sits for weeks. Initially, it may look okay, but over time it becomes murkier and dirty.

We can get rid of this water by taking action to remove it. It requires energy and effort. For many of us, this can be overwhelming and challenging since we have become attached in some way. It is comfortable.

My spiritual path has helped me realize that I am in control of the quality of life I want to have. Understanding that being grounded internally will help me cope and deal with the inevitable external lessons that come for me.

➡️ Side note: Notice how I write about external experiences I have no control over. First, I view them as experiences and growth opportunities and not negative events. Being that these are lessons, they are meant for me and not being done to me. I believe we are always being taught lessons no matter how tough, sad, or unbearable they may seem in the moment.

I always want to point out I am not saying you can experience negative emotions or avoid them. I am saying the opposite – lean into them and release them. Experience it, feel it, then let it go. No matter how big or small, let it go.

Remember we are all on this journey together. Compassion, love, and understanding will always be healing and comforting to ourselves and those around us.

The first step to change is going inward and challenging those programs and patterns that we experience regularly on autopilot. Even just taking time to be aware is incredibly freeing. Take that first step, freedom is on the other side.
