What the passage of time has taught me

Clear hourglass with red background.

Time seemingly ticks on. A rhythmic measure that beats ever onward and stops for no one.

The passage of time has taught me two important lessons — time is an illusion and that change is inevitable.

Time is a way for humans to organize the chaos of the universe. When we truly connect within ourselves on a higher plane time does not exist. Our world is comprised of energy that knows no bounds. It can neither be created nor destroyed and the concept of time or location is foreign. It just exists.

Time also gives us the illusion that we have more or less of it. It can box us in if we allow it. Who would we be if we had no concept of time? Would you take more or less risks?

As with anything in nature, everything has a cycle. The new pushes out the old. Change is inevitable and time just allows us to clearly measure it.

Many of us get stuck in longing for a past that no longer exists except a memory in our minds. Others worry about the future that has not even happened yet. Sometimes we hold on so tightly to these past memories and experiences (good and bad) that we remove ourselves from being able to create new opportunities.

When we focus on the past or the future, it takes us away from the present moment. The present moment is all that we truly have. When we no longer separate time into the past, present, and future we can truly being to live in the moment.

Dr. Joe Dispenza often talks about using our past to create a predictable future. If we want to change we need to move ourselves out of this state.

“Often we focus all our energy on our bodies, on places, on other people, and on everything in the external world. We want to build the future on the past.”

Dr. Joe Dizpenza

To make these changes, we need to get out of our minds and the external world and focus inward. We can do this through meditations, yoga, and other spiritual work. Once you begin to do that, you will begin to feel less reactive to the external world and have more control over life.
